Alissa Sanders sings a multilingual mix of jazz and Brazilian music, bringing together two countries with prolific musical traditions.
Born in Hollywood, California, Alissa has spent much of the past two decades in Brazil, studying voice with mentors such as Wagner Barbosa, Adriana Godoy and Neto Costa while absorbing the culture and music in her day to day life. Through music that is intimate, colorful, multilayered and enchanting Alissa traverses borders embodying a magical, musical place where culture, art, tradition, and spirit come together.
Alissa has been featured on television and performed at festivals, events and venues in both Brazil and the United States. She has recorded with jazz and world music artists in India, Brazil, and her home country.
In addition to solo work, Alissa sings with the group DNA Urbano, which will release its debut album in 2018.
In her continued explorations of music, living in Brazil and of seeking ways to blend culture and identity through art, Alissa is spearheading several new projects in 2018. These will bring together musicians from Brazil and Africa in performances, videos and recordings of jazz and Brazilian standards as well as original and collaborative material.
